St. Bernard High school was honored as a representative of Catholic Education in the Los Angeles Archdiocese at the annual Cardinal Award’s Dinner on March 11, 2017. The school was one of six beneficiaries including Sacred Heart High School, Immaculate Heart of Mary School, St. Mathias School, Our Lady of Guadalupe School (in Los Angeles), and Notre Dame Catholic School in Santa Barbara.
The Cardinal’s Award Dinner “celebrat[es] the selfless, self-effacing and talented people who make up the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.” This year’s honorees included William H. Ahmanson, Rick J. Caruso, Leticia Ibarra, Nicholas Weber, and Gretchen Willison. The awards are presented by the Most Reverend José H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles. The award were established by Cardinal Roger Mahoney in the late 1980s. Douglas Cooper, master of ceremonies at the event and member of the event’s board, charcterized the evening as “the Catholic Academy Awards.”
St Bernard’s share of the evening’s proceeds will help the school’s scholarship program.
